Quick Tips for Working with a Recruiter

Connecting with a Recruiter can be a great way to discover a new job opportunity. Below are 5 quick tips you can use to optimize your time when working with a Recruiter.

Work with a Recruiter in your Industry

There are many different recruiters that specialize in many different fields. Do some research ahead of time to find a staffing firm and recruiter that will best meet your needs. Find a recruiter that works in the specific industry you are in. At Oxford Solutions our recruitment hiring pros are focused on IT skills sets. Examples of the jobs we fill include technical support specialists, software engineers, developers and user experience designers. In addition, we also recruit for mechanical, electrical and civil engineering roles as well as CAD drafters and designers.

Get Organized Ahead of Time

Make sure your resume is up to date and easy to read. Your resume should accurately represent your current and past job history and education. A Recruiter’s goal is getting you in front of a hiring manager. If your resume is already up to date, then you won’t have to spend time updating your resume after you’ve connected with a recruiter.

Be Proactive

Once you start applying for jobs or if a recruiter reaches out to you to gage your interest in an opportunity, make sure to respond. In addition, make it a point to stay in touch with your recruiter. If your resume matches the basic requirements on a job posting, be proactive and follow up on the status of your application and any potential for interviewing for the jobs you are interested in.

Follow Up with your Recruiter

Make sure to keep lines of communication open with your recruiter. If your recruiter calls you, make sure to call back promptly. No longer interested? Let your recruiter know. There is no point in wasting time. Simply let your recruiter know so they can focus there efforts on other candidates. It’s important to follow up, because, if one opportunity falls through, there may be others. That is to say, you never know when you might need help again in your job search.

Be Open to Feedback

When you are in the job search process, allow yourself to be open to feedback from recruiters. Why? To ensure that you are presenting yourself in the best light possible. Allow your recruiter to be your coach. The ultimate goal is to find you a great opportunity which is a win for all parties.
